5 Makeup Artists To Insta-stalk for Last-Minute Hallowe’en Inspo

By Colette Fitzpatrick

You’ve gone and left it until the last minute again and are floundering for a costume for tonight, there’s no time to go shopping for lots of bits, and you’re panicking…we’ve all been there. Plus, with Instagram as a source for amazing shots of every Tom, Dick and Harry you know decked out in incredible costumes, the pressure is on now more than ever.

But while Instagram went and raised the bar on all of us, it is also where you can grab some inspo, try and recreate a makeup look using some of the arsenal of far-too-many products that we all have and, hey presto, you’ll have a costume.

Who cares about the clothes when your face is a work of art, right?

If you’re like us, and stuck at the last minute once more, here are the beauty accounts that you can go Insta-stalk and try and pick up a thing or two and some inspiration from right now. You’re not going to suddenly be magically as gifted as Pat McGrath but, just maybe, something will stick and you’ll be able turn a bit of a look.

1. Pat McGrath

Speaking of the goddess that is Pat McGrath, that’s a great place to start. On her account, the legendary makeup artist shares her own looks from behind the scenes and shoot imagery, excellent inspiration of her own and looks from followers. A wonderful mish-mash of sources and looks that range from creepy to pretty.

Potential ideas from a browse of her account: skull makeup, 80s contoured glamour, Bowie (the makeup looks that man gave us…)

2. Isamaya Ffrench

Since I stumbled upon Isamaya Ffrench on Instagram a couple of years ago, I’ve been obsessed. She is brilliant and utterly unafraid to be intense or grotesque or discomforting – ideal for Hallowe’en.

Potential ideas from a browse of her account: A member of Kiss, 20s movie star, a living oil painting

3. Beauty Spock

This is one of my favourite accounts full stop. Frances embodies incredible characters in her outfits and stunning makeup looks and I’m always delighted when a new image from her shows up in my feed. A better choice for those more interested in looking real pretty…

Potential ideas from a browse of her account: A weeping Southern Belle, Brigitte Bardot, a sixties alien

4. Alex Box

Another legend, Alex Box’s looks are painterly and otherworldly and stunning. Perhaps, not the easiest things to recreate but if you’ve got skills, time and patience, definitely one to aim for.

Potential ideas from a browse of her account: A Baroque alien, a butterfly, a nymph

5. Withteethh

Our very own Elle, who has a backlog of stunning looks that are always gorgeous but may be of particular interest to most at this time of year…

Potential ideas from a browse of her account: A dream eater, a demon, a very, very scary clown (halp)

What are you doing? Get to it! And happy Hallowe’en!
