Joanne Hynes is known for her love of colour and pattern. Everything she does is vibrant and effervescent and her vision for AW18 is no different.

Her latest collection, entitled, “A Date With Dali – A Surrealist Love Affair,” was inspired by that famous artist’s collaborations with Schiaparelli, the great Italian couturier. Hynes’ jewel-encrusted bunny and robots – not unlike Dali’s famous accessories – appear throughout the garments as prints and pieces of jewellery and rich embroideries and use of sequins is another consistent feature of many items. The palette consists of some black or muted items but largely pastel pinks, lilacs, cobalt blues and rich fuchsias, keeping things exceptionally bright and airy for a winter collection. At the same time, however, there are some excellent overcoats, jackets and knitwear pieces to burrow into and stay warm.

At the showcase, the styling was perfect; slicked back hair, bright pink eyeshadow and high pink blush, fluffy heels in an array of shades and a couple scarves worn over the head which is very in at the moment. Personal highlights were the sequin tunic and matching pants set in an Art Deco pattern that Joanne herself wore as a two-piece and a similar mini-dress that her mother (one of the models) wore, the pink metallic two-piece with a baby pink bunny long-sleeve underneath that model Ami Jackson (one of the best models in Ireland atm, imho, btw) wore, and the stunning velvet coat in black, with pale pink, fuchsia, blue and brown patches.

Between the enthusiastic exuberance in the garments, the diverse cast of models and Hynes’ three daughters delightfully cheering their mammy and nanny on, the whole showcase was a thing of joy and a reminder that winter wardrobes can be as fun as we damn well please.
